Retired Sergeant Joseph “Joe” Bermudez was in Law Enforcement with Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for over 30 Years. Prior to Law Enforcement, he was a member of the U.S. Army, serving as a Counter-Intelligence Agent, in the Military Intelligence Corps. Joe’s career in Law Enforcement has spanned over several areas, to include, Road Patrol, Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol, General Investigations Detective, and specialized in Sexual Crimes Investigations. For the last 18 years of his career, Joe was involved in Community Policing and Crime Prevention. He is a certified Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner, Florida Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Practitioner, and recently received his certification as a National Crime Prevention Specialist. During his tenure with the MDPD Community Affair’s Bureau, he supervised and coordinated MDPD’s Community & Youth Outreach Programs, including overseeing the Crime Prevention efforts for Miami-Dade Police. He served on the executive boards for several professional associations. Joe is the current President of the Florida Crime Prevention Association and Past-President for the Southeast Florida Crime Prevention Association. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Thomas University.
Once retired, Joe took on the position of Program Director at Citizens’ Crime Watch (CCW) of Miami-Dade. He is responsible for supervising and coordinating programs such as neighborhood watch and the Youth Crime Watch (YCW) Program. Founded in 1979, YCW is a pivotal program within Miami-Dade County Public Schools that empowers students with crime prevention strategies. The program emphasizes creating a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment through education, understanding, and communication. YCW operates school wide as an extracurricular club where coordinators, along with school advisors, tailor activities to address the unique needs of their schools.
Additionally, Joe coordinates the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Women’s Self Defense classes and the radKIDS Child Safety Classes offered by CCW. In 2021, Joe was certified as an instructor in both programs as well as becoming a certified Aggressor Trainer for both. CCW holds RAD classes on a monthly basis, they trained close to 500 women and kids in self-defense thus far. One of the many hats he wears now a days, is the social media coordinator for CCW and the host for the monthly podcast. If you know Joe, you know he is never at a loss for words and loves to talk! So, you can catch him on the CCW Podcast on YouTube and wherever else you can listen to podcasts. It’s become a great tool to share his passion for crime prevention, increase “Awareness” (his favorite word), and to educate his viewers on how not to be a crime victim.
Since 30 years wasn’t enough, In February 2024, Joe got back into the “Brown Gown” and became a Deputy Sheriff Reserve with the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (Formerly MDPD). Joe volunteers his time with the Village of Palmetto Bay Community Outreach Unit and continues his efforts to keep the community safe through community policing. He is a strong advocate for Crime Prevention education and his presentations are highly sought throughout Miami-Dade County.
Peter "Pete" Judge has been in Law Enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff with Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (formerly the Miami-Dade Police Department) for over 33 Years. Prior to Law Enforcement, Pete was a member of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Gunner’s Mate/Master At Arms, onboard the USS Iowa (BB-61). His career in Law Enforcement has spanned over several areas, to include, Road Patrol, General Investigations Detective, and specialized in Sexual Crimes Investigations. For the past 17 years, Pete has been involved in Community Policing and Crime Prevention. He is a certified Florida Crime Prevention Practitioner, Florida Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Practitioner. He currently is assigned to the Village of Palmetto Bay and assigned the duties of conducting Crime Prevention training for the residents, businesses and schools in Palmetto Bay. He serves on the executive boards for several professional associations. Pete is the President of the Southeast Florida Crime Prevention Association and the Region 8 Director for the Florida Crime Prevention Association. He is a strong advocate for Crime Prevention education and his presentations are highly sought throughout Miami-Dade County.
